LKFF - BLADES OF BLOOD (2010) dir Lee Joon-ik 1j1rw

I am not really sure what BLADES OF BLOOD is about specifically; it tells of an illegitimate son, the blind swordsman who teaches him to sword fight and a guy who killed the father and is trying to protect Korea from the Japanese occupation, whom both the son and blind swordsman want to kill.

Long story short, I fell asleep. Literally. Action films are really not my thing, I find them mind-numbing. This does not mean I am adverse to a bit of onscreen violence, it's just that it was predictable. The fight sequences, however, have been praised by others who are more versed in action films, which means, if you are into foreign swordfight action - then, this is for you.

The highlight of the film for me, however, are the performances delivered by Hwang, the blind swordsman and Lee, the guy who takes over the Alliance to protect Korea. Hwang is a fun character that reminded me of a funner version of that other well known blind swordsman, Zatoichi. And Lee's fervent belief in his capacity to lead Korea against the Japanese is nothing short of inspiring.

I would recommend the film on this basis alone.
