Sunscreen Film Festival Opening Night Film FOUR DOWN (2025)

FOUR DOWN

Sunscreen’s 20th Anniversary Kicks off with the World Premiere of Four Down. The incredible story captured the nation’s attention in 2009.

St. Petersburg, FL – The Sunscreen Film Festival is thrilled to announce that its 20th annual edition, taking place April 24-27, 2025, kicked off with the highly anticipated World Premiere of the documentary feature film Four Down. The festival’s opening night festivities were held at the AMC Theatres Sundial in downtown St. Petersburg, FL, on
Thursday, April 24, 2025, beginning with a red carpet event from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, followed by the screening at 7:00 PM.

Four Down, directed by Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award winning filmmaker Steven Cantor and produced by Cantor and Jamie Schutz of Stick Figure Productions, Rick French of Prix Productions, and Stanley Buchthal and David Koh of Dakota Media Group, tells the gripping story of Nick Schuyler’s harrowing rescue by the U.S. Coast Guard 43 hours after a tragic boating accident in the Gulf of Mexico. The accident claimed the lives of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith, and Schuyler's best friend, former USF tight end Will Bleakley. The powerful film explores resilience, survival, and the unwavering commitment of the U.S. Coast Guard, whose was instrumental in bringing the story to life.

Gala Film, a leading Web3 entertainment company, financed the film, with its founder Eric Schiermeyer and COO Jonathan Hazeldine executive producing, along with Schuyler, Mark Wahlberg and Closest to the Hole Productions, and Snoop Dogg and his Death Row Pictures production banner. Filmed on location in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa and at Lantica Studios in the Dominican Republic, Four Down uses current commissioned U.S. Coast Guard and officers for many of the film’s reenactments, with documentary-style interviews of the heroes behind the massive search and rescue effort nearly 16 years ago to the day that ultimately saved Schuyler’s life. The opening night screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers, providing audiences with exclusive behind-the-scenes insights into the making of this extraordinary film.

“On behalf of Nick Schuyler and his family, and our entire producing team, I’d like to thank Tony Armer and the Sunscreen Film Festival selection committee for honoring us with its Opening Night selection,” said French. “This story unfolded before the world’s eyes over several days in Clearwater, so this is where we wanted our premiere to be
held. It will allow families and friends to come together and celebrate the lives of Marquis, Corey and Will, while also recognizing the heroism of the St. Petersburg Sector Coast Guard who risked their own lives to save Nick that fateful day.”

Following the screening and filmmaker Q&A, the festival hosted its Opening Night Party at the James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art, offering guests an unforgettable evening of networking and entertainment. This 20th edition of the Sunscreen Film Festival is a time for reflection and celebration, and what better way to do so than with a story that honors resilience, commemorates the lives lost, and showcases the remarkable bravery of our local heroes," said Armer.

The festival would not be possible without the ongoing of its sponsors. Especially the City of St. Petersburg, and the St. Pete Clearwater Film Commission.
